At Solstice

Actually these pear blossoms came out a bit before June 21 but I liked them so much I used them on the invitation to the Summer Solstice event we held last week on Midsomer. That particular happening took so much of time and effort that I had to drop this for awhile- but oh the clearing out that got done! I'm doing a lot of that right now because- well we've been here 30 years now and it's a good time to reassess things. Since then the hump of the year has been surmounted, and the height of the solar year brings with it so much activity, in the opening house, the garden that goes from barren to choked with out-of control plant life, and animal, the crush of new ideas and the sense that in the long-light days there's all the time in the world to do and get done every little thing one wants to do.....

We've had perfect afternoons. The not terrible temperatures were lucky because of all the house and barn cleaning. Most of the planting is done, and here's this year's chart, started. I can't fill it all in because I forgot what some of these things are and won't know till they fruit, so it will be an as-the-summer-goes chart. I like to do them yearly, time consuming as they are to do. This is filled in very lightly so I can add the thinngs as they come out, using pencil so I can change stuff throughout the season.

Mom Duck checks in and out each day, and there is still lots of birdsong floating around though I think most of the babies have fledged- Oh! and our friend Wendell had a full screech owl family! Red ones too-

Now, to just let it all grow...
